Sitting Down with the Visionary Behind iCaptain

Some may say it’s not everyday you get to sit down with the CEO of a company and talk about their childhood that led to the brilliance of the company. Not at iCaptain. We get to do it everyday, thanks to the culture of communication and all of us working on a shared goal: to deliver the most comprehensive cricket management app the world has ever seen.

We sat down with Ashik Lama, the founder and CEO of iCaptain. His excitement was inspiring. With the highly anticipated launch of iCaptain on January 10 just around the corner, Ashik gave us a glimpse at what makes this platform a game-changer (and the only game changer in the industry) for cricket management and why he believes it will redefine the way the sport operates.

“January 10 is the date,” Ashik says, “that marks the culmination of years of work. We’ve been pouring our hearts into iCaptain for two years now, and we’re all excited to finally be able for the world to use it.” For Ashik and his team, this isn’t just a product launch—it’s the launch of a revolutionary tool that will forever bridge the gap between the sport and the management / operation of it.

Not Just Another App

When we asked: Wait, so is it a digital score boarding app that has a news functionality?

“There are already plenty of apps out there for that,” Ashik said. “iCaptain is something completely different. It’s a bridge—a platform that connects everything involved in cricket management. Whether you’re a league owner, a franchise owner, a coach, or a player, iCaptain brings it all together.”

Ashik repeatedly mentioned the phrase “bridge the gap” in the interview. This looked purposeful and genuine, so we decided to dive deeper.

This vision stemmed from Ashik’s 12 years of experience in cricket management, a journey that began in 2011 when he transitioned from being a player to managing teams around the world.

“Maybe I’m a better manager than a player,” he laughs it off. “But those years taught me everything—how players are drafted, how they’re groomed, what kinds of stats teams need, and even what types of tournaments work best and what the magnitude of those tournaments are.”

Identifying the Gap

Ashik identified a massive gap in the way cricket operations are handled. “Managing cricket involves so much more than people realize,” he explained. “It’s not just about the players; it’s about contracts, airline tickets, rentals, operations, and coaches. Right now, there’s no single platform that ties all these elements together."

"Teams end up spending $600,000 to $800,000 on inefficiencies just through franchising alone, and I know that money could be saved if there was an app like iCaptain.” Ashik affirmed.

Ashik also brings a global experience and perspective to the app. “I’ve been fortunate enough to connect with people from the USA, the UK, Nepal, Australia, India—and that exposure has helped me understand the gaps even better. I’ve been there, done that. The gap is real and an app like iCaptain can absolutely fulfill it.”

Designed for Everyone

“iCaptain is designed for everyone involved in cricket. It adds accountability to each and every individual on the app, no matter who you are. Whether you’re a player, a coach, a manager, or a league owner, iCaptain ensures you have a meaningful place in the app. No other app allows this level of integration.

Moving Forward

“iCaptain is young and we recognize that. The gap to fill is huge. Our app will be designed in a way these integrations are slowly rolled out, not overwhelming and overbearing to the user, but in a more subtle and well defined manner” Ashik said.

When we asked about what the first phase of the plan of action was, he say “As s franchise cricket team owner, it’s easy to get lost in operations. Missing contracts, missed ticket bookings, confusing communication channels, it can be too much. That’s why iCaptain exists.” That, he explains, is the first plan of action.

As our conversation was coming to an end, one thing became evidently clear: iCaptain isn’t just another cricket app. It’s a visionary platform designed to simplify, streamline, and elevate cricket management. And on January 10, the cricketing world will finally see what Ashik Lama and his team have been working so tirelessly to create. The management of the game is about to change for good.
